Discover Our Coffee Legacy

In the mountains of Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua, where mist embraces the coffee farms and fertile soil holds secrets of tradition, 1918 Coffee is born: a legacy built with effort, vision, and passion for coffee across four generations.

The story begins with Máximo Gutiérrez Gutiérrez, our great-grandfather and father of our grandmother Margarita, a pioneer who in the early 20th century began cultivating coffee in San Juan del Río Coco. His hands planted not only coffee beans but also roots of commitment and love for the land.

The second generation, represented by our grandparents, Alfonso Ramos and Margarita Gutiérrez, strengthened this legacy, uniting two families and two visions under the same passion: coffee.

In the third generation, our father Alberto Ramos and his twin brother Máximo Ramos, together with their father, expanded coffee growing to new horizons, preserving tradition with innovation and dedication. During this time, that they established a coffee export mill in Honduras, taking Segovian quality beyond borders.

At the beginning of the 2000s, Dr. Rolando Somarriba, our maternal grandfather, expanded the family’s vision by entering the coffee sector as well, strengthening the legacy from both family lines and consolidating a future where tradition and knowledge are intertwined.

Today, in the fourth generation, we, two Ramos Somarriba siblings, together with our parents, proudly carry the responsibility of this tradition. With deep family roots in Nueva Segovia, our mission is to share with the world a coffee that honors the heritage of our ancestors and reflects the richness of our land. For the first time, this legacy has given life to our own personal coffee brand, created to represent our family’s work and tradition beyond borders.

1918 Coffee is more than just a brand; it is a story of family, perseverance and tradition—savored in every cup.
